Do I need an account to use Hike-Planet?
You can search and discover the hikes that appeal to you without being logged in. Creating an account becomes necessary to sign up for a hike, to organise one, and to be part of the Hike-Planet community.
Is Hike-Planet free?
Organising a hike, joining a hike and keeping your personal library are free services.
Who organises the group hikes?
Anyone registered on the site can create their own hike. Organisers are walkers, not professional guides. You are responsible for the hikes you organise.
What happens to my data?
Your routes, photos and notes stay in your account and are never sold. Our data protection page explains exactly what we collect and why.
When will the mobile app be available?
The mobile app is in preparation. The download links will go live as soon as it is published on the App Store and Google Play.
Can I organise hikes lasting more than one day?
Not for now. The app currently only allows single-day hikes to be created.
What is the difference between confirmed participants and the waiting list?
The organizer sets a maximum number of participants. The first people to register are confirmed as long as the maximum number of participants has not been reached. Only confirmed participants will ultimately be allowed to take part in the hike. Anyone registering after the maximum number has been reached is placed on the waiting list and becomes confirmed if a spot becomes available among the confirmed participants. Up to 2 hours before the departure time, the organizer may increase the maximum number of participants, allowing some people on the waiting list to move to the 'Confirmed Participants' list. Anyone still on the waiting list less than 2 hours before the departure time will not be allowed to participate.
Why are the 24-hour and 2-hour milestones before departure important?
Up to 2 hours before the departure time, the hike remains open and visible in the search results. Any registered user can join the hike or cancel their participation. The organizer can still modify certain settings or cancel the hike. Once the 2-hour milestone has been reached, the hike is completely locked for both participants and the organizer, except for comments. Between 24 hours and 2 hours before the hike's departure time, the organizer can no longer move the departure time or meeting time earlier. However, they may postpone them to a later time, including moving the hike to a later date.
